The Purpose of this Project

The United States needs a health care strategy that will constrain escalating costs while protecting and enhancing quality, access, coverage, and affordability of care.

After decades of failed efforts to slow the growth in spending by setting the battle for cost containment between payers and providers, a strategy of informed and cost-conscious consumer choice appears viable that brings in consumers of care as arbiters of value.

The purpose of Healthcare|Evolving is to perform policy design and implementation of an informed consumer choice policy strategy, to create demonstrations that can serve as a national model. H|E is a project of the Center for Policy Design, and is associated with the Cost and Quality Initiative, a joint-venture of the Center for Policy Design and researchers at Harvard University.
